First Landing State Park

The photographic series First Landing State Park focuses on the dead trees in the park which is located in Virginia Beach, VA. The trees evoke the experience of American soil where the first English settlers, led by Christopher Newport and the Virginia Company, first landed in 1607. As the American landscape has changed since the arrival of the English colonists, the First Landing State Park has hardly changed and thus, it gives us an idea of the region during the time of colonization.

The day I visited Cape Henry, where the First Landing State Park is located, the sea was quite rough, as if it told of the day in 1607 when the English colonists took the first steps on American soil.

A Walk In Nature

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, travel restrictions have been put in place. Paradoxically, the displacement restrictions have encouraged me to be more outside, in nature. I took daily walks in the forests of Virginia. Through the series A Walk In Nature I want to give special importance to nature and question the relationship between the individual and the landscape. The physical involvement of walking creates receptivity to the landscape. I photograph the landscape as I walk.
